Rite of Passage - First Away Game
Taking the kids to the West Brom game so please mind your language.

I very rarely travel these days as time and spending money are not as plentiful as in my young free and single days and although amongst others I recall iconic visits to the Hawthorns in 79 (3rd round FA Cup) and 86 (penultimate league match) I cannot for the life of me remember my first away match. First home match yes but first away away match, no idea.

You?

Trying to put a positive spin on things I said to my boys "well at least after that you know it won't get any worse".

Unfortunately with West Ham we will probably find a way of doing worse than conceding 4, scoring none and having a player sent off. The 8 hours in the car may have also put them off going to another one for some time.

Re: Rite of Passage - First Away Game
The BOY had his first 45 minutes of away football yesterday and saw us ship in two and get a man sent off. Then there's the nigh on ten hours he spent stuck in the motor as we battled the traffic, I think it's safe to say that as away games go it won't get much worse for him.

Well that went well then, Good day out apart from the 90 minutes in the middle which should just about put the kids off from doing it again ever.

Got me thinking of another subject that my memory is not clear on, the biggest defeat I have ever witnessed home or away.

You?

Autumn of 1969 at Southampton-the only kid in the car park wearing Claret and Blue.Bobby Moore walked past me and I didn't manage to get his autograph but when I tried to reach the coach window with my programme,Alan Stephenson got up and let me on the bus..got all the autographs as the players got on ..even got my World Cup 1966 Final programme signed by Moore Hurst and Peters (see many earlier posts explaining that my old man tore it up due to a poor school report) >sob

Coldest I have ever been was Ipswich away in 86... my trainer had a hole in it and having to trudge through slop and snow was not much fun... I was luckly I never lost me toes to frostbite

I can confirm that the Orient away game was 1-1 and was FUCKING FREEZING.

Re: Rite of Passage - First Away Game
The away game at Orient was the coldest I've ever been at the football, and possibly the coldest I've ever been in my life. Genuinely fucking painful and a shit match from memory.

Yep sorry I was talking about the home game. The away game was definitely 1-1, I remember a lot of chat that it was a fix so the O's got a replay and some more much needed cash.

Re: Rite of Passage - First Away Game
I don't remember it being that cold. We won 4-1, I do remember that. I'm pretty sure Kevin Keen scored a goal where he walked the ball into the net.

Re: Rite of Passage - First Away Game
My first away game was Leyton Orient in the cup. I'm sure the two teams came out to the Eastenders theme tune.

I also saw us lose 4-0 against Dundee United at Tannadice in a pre season friendly. We sat in the main stand and my old man was doing his nut which caused some jocks to move away from us.
